Brevity in Form: The Art of the Short Essay

In this workshop, we will take a deep dive into crafting the short essay, a moving and personal form with the emotional impact of a short story and the lyricism of poetry. We’ll read essays from masters and innovators and explore sources of inspiration, from distant memories to pet peeves to impassioned beliefs. With the help of prompts, you will write a number of first drafts and then shape and revise at least one into a pitch perfect, polished jewel.
